The Board of Education for Jeffco Public Schools voted to appoint Dr. Jason Glass as superintendent and approved his three-year contract of employment at a special meeting on May 16. This finalizes the superintendent search, which the Board decided to undertake in January. View the official press release or view this video to learn more about Dr. Glass.
“Dr. Glass has already begun to generate optimism and excitement in our schools. He is truly an inspirational leader and all of us are looking forward to working with him in the future,” said Board of Education President Ron Mitchell. “I hope our entire community will come together and work collectively with Dr. Glass to help Jeffco Schools realize our vision to become one of the best school districts in the country. Our 86,000 students deserve nothing less from each of us. Together we can make our vision a reality!”
The search firm Ray & Associates received 69 applicants to the Jeffco Public Schools superintendent job posting. The firm pushed forward 11 candidates for the Board of Education to review. On April 20, the Board of Education decided to move six candidates to the in-person interview level. The Board announced Dr. Jason Glass, currently the superintendent of Eagle County Schools in Colorado, as the sole finalist for the superintendent position during a special meeting on May 1.
“We interviewed six strong candidates and we unanimously agreed that one candidate, Dr. Glass, rose above the rest," said Board of Education Second Vice President Susan Harmon. "Dr. Glass matched the community’s input to select an effective communicator and an innovator who is committed to providing the best education for all children. Dr. Glass is the right leader for moving Jeffco forward and making us one of the best schools in the nation.”
“I am tremendously honored and humbled to be the superintendent of Jeffco Public Schools. As we now look to our future, we must focus on uniting our community behind a shared, positive, and student-centered vision. Our real and relentless enemies are ignorance and poverty – and they reign wherever division and ambiguity are present,” said Glass. “In the coming days, months, and years I will call each one of you to stand behind Jeffco’s schools – supporting them in this morally important work, and also pushing them to be what our children deserve. As your superintendent I pledge to listen, and more importantly, to hear from all voices in the community – and you can count on me to boldly act in the best interest of our children. I am grateful for the Board of Education’s confidence, and I am ready to get to work.”
Glass will assume Jeffco Public Schools superintendent duties on July 1. A welcome reception for him will be held on June 8 from 4-6 p.m. at Lakewood High School. His resume may be viewed online, as well as his (unsigned) contract, and you can follow him on Twitter at @COJasonGlass.
