Postsecondary Opportunities

What are Postsecondary Opportunities?

"Postsecondary Opportunities" means programming Jeffco students can access in order to jump start their college experience. These opportunities take place at a student's home high school or on a college campus, and most of these opportunities are free to the student.

Through partnerships with postsecondary institutions, Jeffco has created opportunities for students to begin their college career before even setting foot on a college campus. Jeffco offers several different programs that extend college credit opportunities to students: Concurrent Enrollment, ASCENT, and Dual Enrollment.

Overview of Postsecondary Opportunities

Why Postsecondary Opportunities?

We believe that every student should have access to the opportunity of experiencing college before they finish high school.   Free or low-cost college credit means thousands of dollars in savings over the course of a student's academic career, reducing financial burden on families. Additionally, students can challenge themselves with the rigor of a college course in an environment in which they are already familiar, reducing anxiety about the college experience

Helpful Links for Families

COF: The College Opportunity Fund (COF) is a trust fund created by the Colorado Legislature that provides a tuition stipend to eligible undergraduate students. The stipend pays a portion of your total in-state tuition when you attend a participating college. Students participating in Concurrent Enrollment or Dual Enrollment are required to apply.

FAFSA: The Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) is a Department of Education form which assesses your and your family's financial situation to determine how much you can afford to pay for college.  The results that it presents are then given to your college or university's financial aid office. The FAFSA application opens on October 1st of the year prior to the year which the student intends on beginning college.

CAFSA: The Colorado Application for State Financial Aid is for students who do not have lawful immigration status but have resided in the state for at least three years before graduating from a Colorado high school or passing a high school equivalency exam to assist with paying for college.

CDE: The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) for Postsecondary and Concurrent Enrollment provides data, facts, and information for families regarding all forms of postsecondary education opportunities.
