The purpose for identification is to provide programming different from the standard curriculum to better meet the unique needs of gifted students. Those students whose academic and affective needs are being met by the standard curriculum are not likely candidates for GT identification.

Colorado Department of Education (CDE) GT Guidelines: Jeffco follows all CDE guidelines for identification practices.

Jeffco Identification Practices

There are different categories of giftedness (academic and talent) that Jeffco identifies using separate processes.

Please utilize this chart for the pathway that best meets your child’s needs.

ACADEMIC

This is what people typically think of as giftedness in an academic setting. Identification can occur in one or more of these academic areas, and is based on a Body of Evidence. If students are identified GT, they will be placed on an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP).

Use the Academic ID Referral link (which is open through out the school year) found below if you are looking for GT identification only and not GT Center placement. Use the GT Center application to apply for GT Center.

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • General Intellectual Ability
2023-24 GT Academic IDENTIFICATION REFERRAL ONLY

We only identify students enrolled in a Jeffco school through this process.

This form should be completed for students who are only seeking GT identification for an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP), and not interested in attending a GT Center school. (This GT Identification Referral is open year round). For more information on our process, please see the GT ID Referral Flowchart

TALENT

These are strength areas where students may demonstrate exceptionality in certain fields. Your child may or may not already have an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) to add a Talent strength area. Each of these talent areas requires a unique application process.
