The Jeffco Student Leadership Board (JSLB) is a dynamic and diverse group of high school student representatives from each Jeffco high school that is committed to fostering positive change, inclusivity and empowerment. Together the JSLB creates an environment that encourages collaboration, celebrates diversity and empowers all students to be leaders in their own lives and educational journey. By shaping policies and decisions that directly impact the education and well-being of all Jeffco students, its members provide student voice and insights to Superintendent Dorland that help inform her leadership and decision making.
The JSLB promotes leadership development and showcases the brilliance of today's student generation to prepare them for a successful future beyond high school graduation.
Leaders Building a Community of Leaders
While serving on JSLB, students gain first-hand experience that fosters their leadership development, including building a personal leadership portfolio that exercises the skills needed to become leaders in their communities and in their own lives. Students also have the opportunity to earn their Student Leadership & Future CEO Certificate through a formalized training program called the Student CEO Blueprint.
JSLB Extraordinary Student Experiences
- Spend a day with the Board of Education and Jeffco Cabinet executive team learning about the pathways to leadership while also providing perspective and insight on the Jeffco student experience
- Attend the Colorado Youth Celebrate Diversity Conference
- Serve on a subcommittee that will strengthen their leadership skills in service of the broader Jeffco community
- Plan and host the inaugural Jeffco Student CEO Leadership Conference on April 26, 2024. The conference will welcome high school student leaders from across Jeffco.
- Participate in suicide prevention training with the Jeffco Mental Health team
- Lead a community service project: Winter Wear Initiative
- Serve on panels, speak at workshops, and represent Jeffco as student ambassadors throughout the year
The JSLB is a paid internship. To be selected for the Board, students 1) were nominated by a staff member at their school, 2) completed an application, and 3) participated in a competitive interview led by other Jeffco student leaders. Applications for the 2024-25 JSLB will be due in August 2024.
